Cutting-edge
technologies for both land and air missions were viewed at Fort Dix
Tuesday at the C4ISR On-the-Move Event 08, culminating four months of
high-tech testing.
C4ISR stands for Command, Control, Communication, Computers,
Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance, and that organization
began the testing in April in collaboration with industry partners and
the Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering
Center , or CERDEC, headquartered at Fort Monmouth, N.J. Technicians
from the labs rolled onto Range 1 at Dix this week to demonstrate
technologies supporting future force capabilities.
The systems displayed are still under assessment, C4ISR officials said,
adding that initial results of the four-month test will be published in
November.

FORT HOOD, Texas - From the outside, the CH-47F Chinooks don't look
much different from their predecessors, aside from the new paint job,
but making that observation is like judging a book by its cover.
This new model is the latest chapter in a long history dating all the way back to the Vietnam War.
Now these new, technologically advanced, twin-rotor, heavy-lift
helicopters are in the able hands of pilots and flight engineers from
Company B, 2nd Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry
Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, who are only the third unit in the Army
to field them, said Capt. Kevin Consedine, a Chinook pilot and the
Commander of Co. B.

8/5/2008 - LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. (AFPN) -- On a recent trip to a bookstore, I was approached by a man in his late 30s to early 40s.
He seemed nervous and upset; avoiding eye contact and shifting his
weight from one foot to the other. My guard went up immediately. In 22
years of military service, I've heard some negative things said about
the military, my branch of service, my choice of occupation given my
gender, and the general displeasure with government policy at large.
The challenge has always been not to take these statements personally.

FORT HOOD, Texas - Soldiers of the 1st Cavalry Division could soon have
a new tool for their upcoming deployment in support of Operation Iraqi
Freedom that enhances the way they communicate with the people living
in Iraq.
A few First Team troopers, along with senior leaders, got their first
glimpse of the Vcommunicator Mobile, a light-weight, compact, hand-held
translation device and cultural awareness aid, during a demonstration
of the capability at the 1st Cav. Div. headquarters here July 21-22.
Currently in use by approximately 700 military service members in Iraq
and Afghanistan, the one-way translation device offers hundreds of
phrases in five different languages to include Iraqi Arabic, Kurdish,
Dari, Pashto and Modern Standard Arabic. It also offers, via video
cues, cultural gestures in the form of hand signals that may be common
to a specific region, allowing for cultural awareness.
