The 453 students in C Company, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, exited the 34-foot training tower twice as many times as the normal requirement March 3.

Army fast-tracking precision mortar to Afghanistan

The U.S. Army is poised to deliver precision mortar rounds to soldiers in Afghanistan by the end of this year as part of an accelerated effort to give commanders there an improved ability to destroy targets in the mountainous terrain, service officials said.

U.S. troops in Iraq adopt new role

WASHINGTON (March 10, 2010) -- Some of the 98,000 U.S. military forces in Iraq already have made the transition from security to stability operations ahead of the September deadline, American military commanders said.

In accordance with an agreement brokered between Baghdad and Washington, the drawdown to 50,000 U.S. troops before September will happen as the American mission shifts from its current role as a partner of Iraqi security forces to primarily one of training and advising.

Soldiers deploying to Afghanistan to get new MultiCam uniforms, boots, gear

WASHINGTON (Army News Service, March 1, 2010) -- Soldiers deploying to Afghanistan will be issued the new "MultiCam" fire-resistant Army Combat Uniform complete with new Mountain Combat Boots and MultiCam-patterned Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment, or MOLLE, gear beginning in July.

AL ASAD AIRBASE, Iraq (Army News Service, Feb. 17, 2010) -- U.S. Army paratroopers took a first step toward a combined U.S. - Iraqi airborne training exercise when 183 paratroopers jumped onto Iraqi soil here Feb. 12 as part of their sustained airborne training.
