WASHINGTON (Army News Service, June 2, 2008) -- Spc. Ross McGinnis was
posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by President George W. Bush in
a White House ceremony Monday morning.
His parents, Tom and Romayne McGinnis, shared the small stage in the
East Room with the president to receive the nation's highest military
honor on their son's behalf. He became the second Soldier serving in
Iraq to receive the medal.

TIKRIT, Iraq (Army News Service, June 2, 2008) - After months of
training, American and Iraqi Special Forces, and American CH-47 Chinook
and AH-64 Apache crews all participated in a recent mission here to
capture high-value targets in northern Iraq as part of Operation Santa
Monica.
The Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division's air assault went
off seamlessly, according to pilots, who say that any mission involving
a Chinook is especially risky given the number of people on the
aircraft.

FORT BELVOIR, Va. - The commanding general of the U.S. Army Materiel
Command, the U.S. Army vice chief of staff and other senior Army
science and technology leaders will recognize the U.S. Army's "Top Ten
Greatest Inventions of 2007 " in an awards ceremony June 12 at the
Hyatt Crystal City - Arlington, Va.
"This program highlights those outstanding winning technologies
selected by the Warfighter that meet army goals; enhance esprit de
corps across the research and development and Warfighter communities;
and promote public awareness of Army R&D community successes in
support of the Warfighter," said Gen. Benjamin Griffin, commander, Army
Materiel Command.
The Army-wide awards program is dedicated to recognizing the best
technology solutions for the Soldier. Nominations for the program were
submitted from across the Army laboratory community. Nine of the 10
ricipients are elements of the U.S. Army Research Development and
Engineering Command.

Army to Equip Brigade with 'Land Warrior' |

FORT BELVOIR, Va. (Army News Service, May 28, 2008) - As Land Warrior
reaches its first anniversary in combat, the Army is seeking to equip
an entire brigade combat team with the high-tech system which increases
mission speed and effectiveness and decreases risks to the warfighter.
The Army has approved an Operational Needs Statement to field the Land
Warrior system to the 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry
Division, in 2009.
During the past year, Soldiers with the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry
Regiment have faced the challenges of asymmetric warfare in Iraq using
Land Warrior, and the battalion's success has prompted others to ask
for the system. The 4-9 Infantry is part of the 4th Stryker Brigade
Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division from Fort Lewis, Wash.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (Army News Service, May. 27, 2008) -- The Army's
transformation efforts signal change for the service's trained
communications experts.
Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Clark, Command Sergeant Major of the Signal
Regiment, discussed some of those changes during a forum for deployed
Soldiers here May 17. He told the gathered Soldiers he was proud of
their service, letting them know they were part of a very select few
group of Americans that serve.
