STUTTGART, Germany - A staff sergeant from U.S. Army Garrison Garmisch
was selected as Noncommissioned Officer of the Year by Installation
Management Command.
Staff Sgt. Todd Allison of Headquarters and Headquarters Company joined
the Army's best recently at Fort A.P. Hills, Va., for the Joint Forces
Headquarters - National Capital Region Soldier and NCO of the Year
competition.
The competition pitted 23 NCOs assigned to various worldwide commands
in a comprehensive evaluation of skills ranging from physical fitness
to Army knowledge.

FORT LEE, Va. (Army News Service, Aug. 16, 2007) - Winning the Army's
Best Warrior NCO/Soldier of the Year Competition brings recognition and
respect.
"That's something that can't be replaced," said Sgt. 1st Class Jason
Alexander, 2006 Department of the Army NCO of the Year. Sgt. 1st Class
Alexander represented the U.S. Army Forces Command at the 2006 DA
competition. He was deployed to Kuwait at the time with 3rd Army, Area
Support Kuwait.
Sgt. 1st Class Alexander wants competitors in the 2007 competition to
know that even without winning, going through all the training and
preparation is worth the effort.

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (Army News Service, Aug. 17, 2007) - Aviation
history was made at Fort Campbell Wednesday as a newly designed CH-47
Chinook helicopter was officially ushered into operation.
Allowing greater capability and Soldier safety, the new $30 million
bird was turned over to Company B, 7th Battalion, 101st Aviation
Regiment, 159th Combat Aviation Brigade.
"How appropriate that we come together here with this aircraft at this
installation with this unit," said Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Shloesser, 101st
Airborne Division commander.

HEIDELBERG, Germnay - Army Lt. Gen. John D. Gardner assumes duties as
the deputy commander for the Allied Land Component Command -
Heidelberg, North Atlantic Treaty Organization during a July 11 welcome
ceremony here on Campbell Barracks.
German Lt. Gen. Karl Heinz Lather, commander, ALCC HQ HD, presided over
the ceremony as he provided a warm welcome on behalf of the command and
the Heidelberg community. Lather also provided the 150 Soldiers and
NATO civilians standing in formation a brief overview of the new deputy
commander's military record and experience Gardner brings to the
command.

8/9/2007 - EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AFPN) -- Whenever Senior Airman Phillip King looks at his medal, he is reminded of Aug. 8, 2006.
That was the day Airman King, through his brave actions, earned the Bronze Star Medal with Valor.
Col. Bryan Gallagher, 95th Air Base Wing commander, presented the medal to him during a ceremony here July 30.
Airman King, who is assigned to the 95th Security Forces Squadron here,
was deployed to Qalat Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan
performing security forces duties with the International Security
Assistance Force.
