11/1/2007 - LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. (AFPN) -- A
two-year effort for the Air Force Global Cyberspace Integration
Center and the U.S. Air Force Academy's Institute for Information
Technology Applications culminated Oct. 31 when the Warfighter's Edge,
or WEdge, was initially released to the field.
WEdge, a base-level command and control tool designed to automate
mission briefings for aircrews, is now fully operational and ready for
distribution across all combat Air Force units.

11/1/2007 - SAN ANTONIO (AFPN) -- Retired Brig.
Gen. Paul W. Tibbets Jr., the pilot of the first atomic bombing
mission, died of natural causes Nov. 1 at the age of 92 in Columbus,
Ohio.
The general was the pilot of "the Enola Gay," the B-29 Superfortress
which dropped the first atomic bomb, "Little Boy" on Hiroshima, Japan,
on August 6, 1945, which many historian consider the end of World War
II.

WASHINGTON (Army News Service, Oct. 25, 2007) - Jack L. Tilley left the
Army twice - first after a tour in Vietnam, then again in 2004. But he
still thinks he's a Soldier.
"You can't just all of a sudden say, 'I quit.' You can't get it out of your heart," said the former sergeant major of the Army.

10/18/2007 - WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- Air
Force Personnel Center officials recently announced changes to the
captain promotion process, which will affect Line of the Air Force
officers.
Beginning January 2008, active-duty LAF officers will be considered for
promotion to captain on a quarterly basis, instead of during the third
quarter of each year.

10/18/2007 - HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii (AFPN) -- A pair
of specially equipped C-130 Hercules aircraft, belonging to the New
York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing, left here headed for
Antarctica Oct. 17.
The team hit the ice at McMurdo Statio, Antarctica, one of the coldest,
windiest, most inhospitable places on the globe, as part of Operation
Deep Freeze.
The mission provides a challenging opportunity to demonstrate the reach
and flexibility of airpower, the capabilities of the joint force and
the integrated support of active duty, Guard and Reserve military
members.
