WASHINGTON (Army News Service, Oct. 11, 2007) -- The Army has cut to a
fraction the time it takes to rebuild battle-damaged Humvees with a new
assembly-line process at Red River Army Depot, Texas.
Red River today was one of 12 Army commands to receive the Shingo Prize
Public Sector Award for Excellence in Manufacturing and Achievement,
called by Business Week “the Nobel Prize for Manufacturing.” And Red
River was one of only three Army depots to receive Shingo’s Gold Medal.

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (TRADOC News Service, Oct. 11, 2007) -- Doug
Saunder's life was shattered in July 2006 after receiving news that his
son had been killed in Iraq during a convoy operation.
Despondent over his son's death, he began drinking heavily, but shortly
thereafter did a drastic about-face, ended his binge, and then he
decided to join the Army.

Army to Expand Basic Combat Training to 10 Weeks |

FORT MONROE, Va. (Army News Service, Oct. 5, 2007) - In early November,
Basic Combat Training will expand from nine to 10 weeks at all five
Army BCT sites: Fort Jackson, S.C., Fort Sill, Okla., Fort Leonard
Wood, Mo., Fort Knox, Ky., and Fort Benning, Ga.
"We're going to do 10 weeks of basic training, starting on Nov. 2,"
said Gen. William S. Wallace, the commanding general of the U.S. Army
Training and Doctrine Command. "It will be a pilot during this fiscal
year. We're going to do it for the first third of the year. The last
10-wek course will be complete somewhere around the twenty-first of
March, and then we'll go back to our normal nine-week basic training
for the rest of the fiscal year."

FORT HUACHUCA, Ariz. (Army News Service, Oct. 5, 2007) - The Department
of Defense Human Intelligence Training-Joint Center of Excellence
celebrated the five courses that now fall under and complete the JCOE
umbrella, and the joint effort that made this unification happen in a
ceremony Monday.
"It's pretty amazing to think of all the things that have happened this
past year to get us to this point and what's going to happen with the
synergy now that we're complete," said Lt. Col. James Hamby, commander
of HIT-JCOE.
