AF nominates 114 officers for astronaut training |

6/19/2008 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFPN) -- The
Air Force Astronaut Nomination Board has forwarded 114 nominations to
the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for consideration in
the pilot and mission specialist categories. The board was held May 13
to 15 and the medical screening panel was held May 20 to 22. More than
200 noninees were considered.
Forty-eight names were forwarded in the astronaut pilot category while
66 names were forwarded in the mission specialist category. Candidates
from that pre-selection are then evaluated by NASA, with the
highest-qualified individuals invited to Johnson Space Center,
Houston, for interviews this fall.

his final Letter to Airmen, the secretary of the Air Force salutes all
Airmen for their dedication, motivation and commitment to the nation.
"You are America's sword and shield, defending the United States and
its global interests by delivering sovereign options in air, space, and
cyberspace," Secretary Michael W. Wynne said.

FORT LEWIS, Wash. (Army News Service, June 16, 2008) - Saturday was an
important day - the Army's 233rd birthday. I hope Soldiers care.
It would be a shame if they didn't.
This is a time to pause and reflect with pride on the remarkable
organization we all - Soldiers, Civilian employees, Family members -
are part of. For longer than our nation has existed, the Army has
embodied what it means to be American.

CAMP STRIKER, Iraq (Army News Service, Jun. 17, 2008) -- A long
tradition of air assaults and a fledgling army are coming together in
Iraq.
The 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division "Rakkasans"
continues to use air assaults to execute their mission in southwest
Baghdad Province. At the same time, the Iraqi army draws on the
expertise of the Rakkasans during these combined air assaults.

Prototype
1 of the Non-Line-of-Sight Cannon was unveiled Wednesday on Capitol
Hill, in Washington, D.C. A total of eight such prototypes will
eventually be delivered to Yuma Proving Grounds, Ariz., by 2010.
