3/26/2007 - HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah (AFNEWS) -- The Air Force will soon benefit from an A-10 Thunderbolt II milestone achieved here in March. Personnel from the 571st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron completed a precision engagement modification on an A-10 14 days ahead of schedule.

Australia Army celebrates 106 glorious years

A MOOD of celebration and reflection prevailed at a service in Blamey Square, Canberra, to mark the Army’s 106th birthday on March 1.

CA Lt-Gen Peter Leahy told the assembled soldiers that they had much to celebrate.

“We are one of the nation’s oldest and most revered institutions. We hold a special place in our nation’s consciousness and we are all proud to wear the slouch hat and rising sun badge,” Lt-Gen Leahy said.

“We are the custodians of our most cherished national narrative – the Anzac legend. The digger legend is now inextricably linked to how Australians think of themselves; irreverent, good-humoured, suspicious of authority and pomposity and always willing to help a mate.”

B-1 Lancers provide show of force

3/14/2007 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNEWS) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for March 14.

In Afghanistan March 13, an Air Force B-1B Lancer dropped guided bomb unit-38s on enemy buildings near Sangin. The B-1B strike came after coalition forces received mortar and machine gun fire. A joint terminal attack controller on-scene confirmed direct hits for all weapons.

Another B-1B provided a show of force near Zarghun Shahr. The JTAC called the show of force successful.

One of two Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles dropped a GBU-38 on a building where a JTAC received sniper fire. The JTAC confirmed the building was destroyed.

Typhoon Reaches New Capability Milestone

The Eurofighter Typhoon has passed another milestone on its journey to become a fully operational Royal Air Force (RAF) multi-role combat aircraft, with the first firings of Advanced Short-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (ASRAAM) from a front line squadron aircraft.

Four ASRAAM were successfully launched by Typhoon F2s of No 3 (Fighter) Sqn based at RAF Coningsby, near Sleaford, Lincolnshire, at the Aberporth weapons range in Cardigan Bay, Wales, during the week 26 February to 02 March 2007.

Ronald Reagan Strike Group Arrives in Hong Kong for Port Visit

HONG KONG (NNS) -- The USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) Carrier Strike Group (RRSG) arrived in Hong Kong March 7 for a scheduled port visit, offering Sailors a chance to participate in cultural exchanges, goodwill generating activities and build friendships.

While in Hong Kong, 250 crew members will take part in 10 community relations projects March 8–9, to include assisting at orphanages and rehabilitation centers as well as working at a dog rescue facility.
